Pathological Altruism
"The benefits of altruism and empathy are obvious. These qualities are so highly
regarded and embedded in both secular and religious societies that it seems
almost heretical to suggest they can cause harm. Like most good things, however,
altruism can be distorted or taken to an unhealthy extreme. Pathological
Altruism presents a number of new, thought-provoking theses that explore a range
of hurtful effects of altruism and empathy. "

One person you should add is Barb Oakley. She is the author of
Evil Genes: Why Rome Fell, Hitler Rose, Enron Failed and My Sister Stole My
Mother’s Boyfriend
http://tinyurl.com/bdpc78
She has done a very thorough reading of the research on empathy. Also,
interestingly, she is working on her next book, which is about the mirror image,
those who are pathologically hyper-empathetic and as a result get hurt. I think
you'd find her a very valuable resource.

Dear Edwin,
My name is Aya Caspi and I live in California. I came here from Israel two years
ago.
In Israel I have been working for 14 years with Naftali Shimrat, a business
philosopher. We have been coaching the high end of the business leaders in
Israel.
Naftali is 82 years old today and he is a master of empathy. I've been trained
by him and witnessed many many empathy miracles which had happened in his little
study room in Tel-Aviv where he still hosts his clients, most of them business
leaders, but also leaders in education, health, arts and other life supporting
activities.
He is also the most empathic man I know.
Feel free to contact me if you want Naftali's contact details.
Good Luck, Aya Caspi aya@rvw.com Tel.
