Intentions

 Intention for the Empathy Circle
Our intention for the circle is to foster an expanding empathic community. That is to nurture empathy for ourselves (self-empathy), empathic connection in the circle, as well as, in the larger society & world.

Edwin: I want to build a local empathic community. I've been doing a lot online and now want a local in person community.

My intention is to gain a better understanding of empathy.

to not fear the judgment of others

empathy - building connections and skills to build connections

To put my needs aside for a couple of hours to listen to others .

To be able to better communicate with my son and daughter in law

to practice empathic communication

to prepare for out reach to a mathematician

I like..

jeff

  • meeting new people that I really like

  • being able to talk about thing I normally don't talk about

  • getting lost in other peoples life

  • laughing

  • being heard

Laurens

  • out switching people between tables

  • the feeling of companionship at the end

Jeremy

  • being given the space to speak and say what I want to say

  • truly knowing how well I was understood

Amy

  • sharing what is on my mind with strangers who are accepting and defer jugement

  • I also like coloring these people

Michael

  • randomization of the circle groups - I think it works fairly well

  • good location

  • new faces

  • familiar faces

  •

Gera - the starting and restating ideas because it makes me hear the ideas in another light

Edwin

  • 4 new people who bring new energy

  • flipping the coin - thank you Michael for the creativite

I Wish...

jeff - we had more topics to drive the conversation sometimes

Laurens - we can continue to have new people integrating well into our meetings

Jeremy -

  •  I didn't feel so stressed to be a good listener and connecting reflect back

  • It wasn't so awkward to find someone to speak too.

Amy

  • It was longer - there were more people

  • we started by bringing all of our anxieties and hang ups to the table, so that we could be more present

Michael

  • more connect

Gera - there was not so many people and so much noise

Edwin

  • more time to try other empathic approaches -  empathic singing

  • more creative energy

What if...  yes, what if?

jeff  - we have a section where we talk about a bunch of predetermined topics

Laurens - we could find empathy easily in the rest of or lives

Jeremy

  • we did paired empathic listening

  • conversed normally at the end

  • did the design crash course [ on how to redesign the Empathy Circles]

  •

Amy

  • we did this over a meal?

  • or met somewhere with comfortable couches / rugs

Gera - everything was okay

Edwin

  • more leadership

  • Michael organize an outside circle

  • think about a time limit of 10 minutes per round? not sure

  • I try singing empathy? ask for a song as reflection.
