Empathy Healthcare Cafe -
Press Release
For Immediate Release:
The First Health Care Empathy Cafe in the USA
Berkeley, California -June 8, 2009- Empathy can repair the broken healthcare
system according to filmmaker, Edwin Rutsch, and the leader of the El Cerrito
Empathy Group.
53 year old Edwin Rutsch has been interviewing participants, at
conferences and other events, for the past 2 1/2 years regarding their personal values that shape
their lives. The values discussed most frequently were caring, community,
equality and justice.
At about the same time, Mr. Rutsch observed that candidate Obama frequently
discussed one particular value, empathy. The filmmaker amassed two hours of
speeches and posted them on Youtube, where Obama points out that what we are
suffering most from, in this country, is an empathy deficit.
Mr. Rutsch has felt such a connection to increasing the awareness of all of us
about the role empathy can play in our lives, he has made this his mission. A
documentary on empathy is in process, and the Empathy Group's first event is a
Healthcare Empathy Cafe to be held June 25th, 6:30 P.M. - 9 P.M., at Redwood Gardens,
2951 Derby St., Berkeley, CA 94705. The topic for the evening is "How can We
Change Healthcare to Address What Obama Calls the Empathy Deficit?"
