Empathy Circle with
Empathy Activists
How might we build a more empathic society and
culture? |
|
This the first of a series of Empathy Circles with empathy
activists. Most participants have written books or head programs on the
topic. This is a way to explore the different facets of empathy together
and for people in the field to get to know each other and exchange ideas
and insights.
Edwin Rutsch
Director, Center for Building a Culture of Empathy
"The Empathy Circle is the most effective
gateway practice for
nurturing and practicing empathy that I know of."
Jackie Acho
Author, Empathy Deficit Disorder: Healing from Our Mix-ups About
Work, Home, and Sex
"The empathy deficit disorder
is the result of an economic
system built on the separation of work and home."
Minter Dial
Author, Heartificial Empathy, Putting Heart into Business and
Artificial Intelligence
"Here are five of the best ways to strengthen your
empathy muscle
and abilities: 1. Listen. Practice active listening, by
reformulating what you hear out loud..."
Anita
Nowak
Author, The Empaths Strike Back!
"Empathy is the most positively disruptive force on
the planet,
but only when it leads to action. It's time for an
empathic action revolution."

Participant Comments
From Jackie Acho -
(Author) Empathy Deficit Disorder: Healing from Our Mix-ups About
Work, Home, and Sex
Can you imagine a meeting in which you are ALWAYS
heard?! Your mind explodes with ideas because you are ALWAYS
listening (rather than angling for your bit of airspace or
defending yourself against an attack)?! You actually learn from
each others' point of view and co-create something better
together.
It feels great. I loved hanging out with Edwin
Rutsch and fellow empathy authors/activists Minter Dial, and Anita
Nowak tackling the question "How do we build a more empathic
culture?" Real conversations that foster a #CurrencyOfEmpathy are
a good start.
Edwin Rutsch's #EmpathyCircles take on any and all
topics and find common ground. Abortion vs pro-life....Reps vs
Dems....God vs the Devil....family issues. All of it. Why?
Empathic listening is the norm. Some would call it #SimpleListening.
Check it out!

EVER HEARD OF AN EMPATHY
CIRCLE?
===================================
I'd like to share with you the concept of the Empathy Circle, instigated
and enthusiastically led by Edwin Rutsch, Director of the Culture of
Empathy.
I have had the
great chance to experience and participate in two Empathy Circle
sessions. The idea of the Empathy Circle is to practice intense
listening and flexing your empathy muscle. It's a powerful way to help
spread empathy and I'd encourage you to check out the structured
dialogue process in action.
The one I'd like you
to check out, via Edwin's YouTube Channel here,http://j.mp/2XFDxuo
was with two other
wonderful authors who have also penned books with the word Empathy in
the title:
Jackie Acho (Empathy Deficit Disorder: Healing from Our Mix-ups
About Work, Home, and Sex) and
Anita Nowak (The Empaths Strike Back). As a word of warning, there
were a couple of technical issues with my connection.
Meanwhile Edwin also
invited me onto his show for a good long-form and rather personal
interview. You
can check it out here.
